A good way to start on the drifting scene is to actually go to shows and also practice only in safe places. There are a couple of companies doing rounds of training and keeping track on where they are going to show up is essential, if you want to get some lessons. Always keep in mind safety.

I think you should specify what safe places means. Empty parking lots and rainy days are tempting but we all know where that can end up. Look up local drifting forums for skid pad days and events. Taking out a couple cones is a million times better than wrecking your machine.
